22+1 Exhibition and perfomance by Viviana Druga

October 1, 2014

For the past two years the Berlin based artists Viviana Druga & Tata Christiane have privately hosted a series of performative photographic sessions to re-stage the Tarot de Marseille, a deck of tarot cards with a design that can be traced to the 15th century. The backdrops, costumes, and props they employed were inspired by the original cards, but also by the artists’ own private mythologies and those of their subjects who were selectively drawn from family, friends, and acquaintances. This collaborative project mines archetypal symbolism through digital photo collages that create diorama like tableaus. The images also make reference to classic religious, mystic, and psychological themes. The new deck of images explore the personal ways each individual may relate to these potent symbols.Viviana Druga will make performative readings for visitors throughout the night of October 1st.

Viviana Druga b. 1982 Transylvania, Romania lives and works in Berlin is a photographer and performance artist who has exhibited throughout Europe and has performed in the Sahara Desert and Indonesia among other places.
