ADRIAN AU & AYANO TSUCHIYA: LEARN TO READ
April 20 - April 22, 2011

The system of language can be broken into written meaning and verbal expression. We use these constructs to communicate, but when the definitions are conditional and lingual articulation is confined, the system becomes insufficient. The two works, Squeak and Fuzzy Logic, are built upon these discrepancies. Squeak attempts to translate chance sound into onomatopoeia and visualize the limitations of these efforts. Fuzzy Logic tries to examine the malleability of synonyms and their inherent logic. Both works struggle to assign physical form to metaphysical content by questioning language’s concrete and abstract nature.

Born in May of 1989, Adrian Au was raised in the Central Valley of California. He studies Neuroscience at the University of Southern California, CA. He has participated in group exhibitions in the Helen Lindhurst Fine Arts Gallery, Station, and 3001 in Los Angeles. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles.

Ayano Tsuchiya was born in Nagoya, Japan in 1989. She studies Art History and Painting at the University of Southern California, CA. She has participated in group exhibitions at the Helen Lindhurst Fine Arts Gallery, Los Angeles and will participate in the USC Roski School of Fine Arts Annual Undergraduate Exhibition, Fisher Museum, Los Angeles.
