Actual Size Los Angeles is pleased to present Mirrors Numbers Waves, an installation of wall relief sculpture by Dori Scherer and carpeting by Erin Gigl. The exhibition builds a colorful, nostalgic world that summons universal archetypes and uncanny iconography. Intimate childlike doodles and waiting room aesthetics appear as if they were put through a psychedelic ringer. Through the lens of personal mysticisms and abstraction, Gigl and Scherer, in their second two-woman show together, explore social meaning and community space. The exhibition interprets symbolism from popular culture and the underground tropes of the 1970's, mirroring the progression/ degression of wholeheartedly believing in something. Visitors are invited to take their shoes off to immerse themselves in the installation and join in performance workshops and meditations through the run of the exhibition.
Erin Gigl was born and raised in Chicago and now lives and works in Los Angeles. She received a BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from The School of Beaux Arts of Marseille, France. She has had solo and duo exhibitions at Galerie Où in Marseille, France; Grenier du Chapitre in Cahors, France; Galleri Uthverfa in Ísafjörður, Iceland and Hanover College in Indiana. She has also been included in selected group exhibitions throughout Europe and the US.
Dori Scherer lives and works between Seattle and Vashon Island, WA. She received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
