Actual Size is pleased to invite you for a very special tour of StandardVision and downtown Los Angeles in conjunction with Peter Baker's exhibition, Current Treatment. StandardVision designs, manufactures, integrates, and operates some of the most innovative digital monuments in the world. The company partners with architects, advertisers and artists to build large scale light displays and program the displays with unique content. StandardVision's numerous technology and programming projects in Los Angeles include the Marriott Courtyard, OUE lobby, One Culver, Metropolis Art, and CIRCA screens as well as the iconic Wilshire Grand building and many projects worldwide. They intend to create immersive experiences with architecture, and their projects point toward visions of the future city.

The day will begin with a walkthrough of StandardVision's headquarters from 1-2, where visitors will be able to see monumental screens and cutting edge technology up close. This will be followed by a visit to Peter Baker's exhibition at Actual Size, and then a walk downtown guided by the artist that will culminate at the Marriott in order to view Peter Baker's photographs displayed on the big screen. Attendees can join and leave the tour at any point in the day. Baker's photographs will be on view on the Marriott screen from November 12- 25.

Baker’s large scale, multi-layered photographs describe the shifting identities of the contemporary city. The socio-economics of the metropolis play out in strange and telling ways, creating disjointed relations between people and their environment. In A Confrontation (Beyond Exceptional) Los Angeles 2017, monumental animated screens and commercial architecture set the stage for an encounter between police and a defiant man. This scene of individual pathos, dwarfed by development and hyper-graphic imagery is a reminder that to navigate the streets of Downtown L.A. is to partake in the grand illusion that one is moving through the public realm, when in reality entire swaths of its sidewalks and thoroughfares are privately owned. Baker’s photograph renders the duplicity of the social-landscape hiding in plain sight under the slogans of progress. This becomes fertile ground to expand on ideas of reality and fiction that inform the artist’s approach to his medium.
