Publication Launch of baumtest Issue 5: Fat-Free

Actual Size is pleased to invite you to the launch of baumtest Issue 5: Fat-Free. baumtest is a quarterly arts publication co-founded by six artists and writers in the pursuit of the experimental and interdisciplinary. As a small collective of Los Angeles based editors, baumtest hopes to carve out a space for vibrant explorations through a collaborative, rather than hierarchical, structure in order to platform a range of voices. Fat-Free presents writing and artwork by Christine Haroutounian, Elizabeth Ahn, Iris Yirei Hu, Whitney Hubbs, Lucy Blagg, Hannah Hummel, Monira Al Qadiri, Josh Atlas, Christian Cummings, John Tain, Lauren Mackler, Patricio Morales, Santi Vernetti, and Takming Chuang. 

 

Fat-Free is a denial, a label, a creed, a promise of austerity. Fat Free is cross-training, Juice cleanses, 2% too much, the body as a temple, the body as an industry, non-this, non-that, the best, the least. Fat Free is the glutton in eternal torment. Fat Free is antibacterial wipes at this gym. It’s skim and slim and calorie-free.Fat-Free is the self-aware offspring of abundance. It’s an erasure. It’s a straight line, a sharp point and a loose thread that runs through the work printed in this issue of baumtest.
